The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) - National Basic Education Commission (NBEC) met with officials of the Department of Education yesterday (February 17) to hold a conversation on critical issues affecting the K to 12 curriculum and private education.
The meeting was facilitated by NBEC Chair Mr. Narcy F. Ador Dionisio, along with the commission members: Ms. Jenny Chua, Dr. Jesusa Bulotano, Ms. Vangie de Peralta; Mr. Jose Allan I. Arellano, CEAP Executive Director, and Ms. Charina Claustro, CEAP Advocacy Coordinator.
DepEd officials present were: Usec Gina Gonong, Asec. Jerome T. Buenviaje, Curriculum and Teaching; and Heads/Directors/Specialists of relevant offices under them, i.e. Bureau of Curriculum Development, Bureau of Learning Delivery, Bureau of Alternative Education, and Bureau of Learning Resources.
The CEAP has been seeking clarification on several key issues, including the implementation of the MATATAG curriculum, updates to the K to 12 assessment and grading system, Learning Recovery Program in private schools, and SHS recognition and curriculum revision. CEAP has also raised concerns about various policies affecting private schools, including cancellation of classes and work (D.O. No. 037, s.2022), and on the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (DO No. 31, s.2018).
Usec Gonong and Asec Buenviaje provided clarifications regarding the implementation of various initiatives, offering explanations on how key programs and policies will be rolled out moving forward.
The CEAP expressed their support for DepEd and their ongoing efforts, reiterating their commitment to assist and collaborate with DepEd, offering its expertise and willingness to engage in further consultations to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives.
