CEAP, DENR-EMB, NGOs and Youth Eco-Groups team-up for Clean Air Month celebration, dubbed "Hangin Around"
To highlight the celebration of Clean Air Month in November 2007, CEAP, DENR-EMB, USAID, schools, youth organizations and young environmental advocates launched "Hangin Around" on November 23 at the University of Sto. Tomas' Yan Tan Kee Student Center. The activity dubbed as "Hangin' Around! Schools Act for Cleaner Air" aims to empower schools and youth organizations to become clean air advocates and strengthen their role in air pollution prevention activities. Included in the afternoon's activities was a colorful parade of the school and youth delegates wearing costumes and advocacy props that depict different ways to clean the air. This was followed by a variety program with creative performances and talks by youth representatives tackling local initiatives of the youth in cleaning the air and taking care of the environment.
The launch activity was jointly organized by the Environmental Management Bureau EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)together with the USAID-Energy and Clean Air Project, in cooperation with the University of Sto. Tomas, the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines and the Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection. The Asia-Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Consumption and Production – Youth Sector and the San Miguel Corporation are also assisting the event.
