The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. in partnership with the Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines and the Department of Education is set to hold the 2012 Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge (MMC) from January to April 2012.
The MMC provides our children with a venue to hone their mathematical skills in an atmosphere of friendly competition. The overall objective is to contribute in improving the quality of mathematics education in the Philippines. Specifically, it aims to: a) awaken greater interest in Mathematics among elementary and high school students in both private and public schools all over the country; b) encourage students to strive for excellence in Mathematics; c) encourage mastery of basic mathematical skills; d) discover mathematical talents among elementary and high school students; and e) provide students opportunities in leadership and cooperative undertaking.
In the 2011 MMC, more than a half million students joined in the elimination rounds representing 29,008 schools, 198 divisions and 17 regions in the country. We are glad to inform you that both of our 2011 MMC 4th Year and Grade 6 First Placers in the Individual Competition, Ms. Carmela Antoinette S. Lao and Adrian Reginald C. Sy are from St. Jude Catholic School, a member school of CEAP.
We would like to invite all the 1,252 member schools of CEAP to join the 2012 MMC. There is a the DepEd Memorandum No. 239 issued last October 24, 2011 by DepEd Undersecretary Francisco M. Varela to encourage participation of schools.
